Nursery PaintingTrying to Get Pregnant? Your Home May Be Stopping You! As you make plans to add a little bundle of joy to your home, you may find that getting pregnant isn’t as simple as you once thought. If you’re finding it’s taking longer than you expected to get pregnant, the cozy home you are hoping to welcome that baby into may be to blame. Chemicals found in your home could be impacting your fertility, so take a closer look around to see if some of these common culprits are to blame.

Your Soap

Of course you want to be clean before you start trying to conceive, but that antibacterial soap you so quickly pump out when you wash up may be destroying your chances. Many soaps, shampoos and even dishwashing liquids contain a chemical called triclosan, and the Huffington Post indicates that the safety of this ingredient is in question. Early studies indicate that triclosan may impact human hormones, leading to early puberty for young people and infertility issues for those who are ready to start a family.

So what can you do if your medicine cabinet is filled with antibacterial products? First, read the labels. Find out if there is triclosan in the bottle, and discard them if there is. Then, switch to natural soaps and shampoos that are free of this potentially harmful ingredient.

The Bed

The bed is pivotal to your baby-making activities, but it could contain chemicals that are making it more difficult for you to conceive. The Bump indicates that flame retardants used on older mattresses, carpet padding and sofa cushions could be inhibiting your potential. When you sleep all night on the mattress, your body absorbs these chemicals, which have been linked to sperm damage for men and conception difficulties in women.

The solution to this problem is simple. After 2004, the use of two of the most common flame-retardant compounds was banned, so purchasing new mattresses from or other reputable retailers can limit this risk. To be extra safe, choose a mattress made from organic materials. Finally, check the tag. If it says “Complies with California TB117,” then it contains a flame retardant of some sort, and you should find a different mattress.

Those Walls

Thinking of putting up a fresh coat of paint in the soon-to-be nursery? You may want to re-think that option. In a 2008 study at the University of Alberta, researchers found that exposure to glycol ethers, which are commonly found in water-based paints, varnishes and stains, were directly connected to a low mobile sperm count in men chosen for the study. In addition, this chemical can disrupt menstruation and cause miscarriages in women, creating a double-whammy for fertility.

So what’s the solution to this concern? It’s not practical to choose not to paint indefinitely. Instead, shop for paints and stains carefully when painting a room or refurnishing furniture, opting for options that don’t contain glycol ether. In addition, make sure you always have adequate ventilation when tackling a painting project to limit your exposure to these types of fumes.

When trying to conceive becomes more challenging than it should, the answer may be in getting rid of fertility-harming chemicals in your home. So take a look around your home to see if you have some of these dangers, and make changes soon. Doing so might be the change you need to finally realize your dreams of getting pregnant.

10 Common Myths About Getting Pregnant

Among the details of the baby making business, one of the most confusing is to know the fact from fiction.

10 Common Myths About Getting PregnantHave Sex Daily

While it won’t necessarily hurt, it won’t necessarily help either. You can have sex constantly (multiple times daily), and it won’t result in pregnancy if it isn’t timed to coincide with ovulation. Even if you know you’re ovulating, once every other day is still enough. Fertilization is possible when sperm is alive, and according to the Mayo Clinic, sperm can live within a woman for three to five days.

Afternoon Delight

As long as you’re ovulating or will be soon, it doesn’t matter much if you have sex during the night or day, spring or fall, etc etc.

Stop Thinking About It

While excessive stress may affect ovulation, “worrying about it” doesn’t. In fact, if you were to decide to let things happen, you probably won’t conceive as quickly if you used a digital ovulation test to track fertile times.

No sexual positions have been proven to help increase conception. Many people believe deeper penetration brings semen closer to its goal, or that gravity is essential so women should stand on their head after sex. Though it makes sense to lie flat or slightly tilted after intercourse to retain as many semen as possible, none of these practices are necessary.

You Can’t Get Pregnant on Your Period

False. While it’s usually less likely that a woman will conceive while menstruating, it isn’t impossible. Because everyone’s cycles differ and sperm can live inside a woman’s body for several days, there aren’t any true “safe days” to have unprotected sex.

Pulling Out Prevents Pregnancy

The withdrawal method, though possibly the oldest form of birth control, isn’t reliable. Because uncontrollable pre-ejaculation fluid may contain sperm from a previous ejaculation, pulling out before ejaculation doesn’t guarantee a prevented pregnancy, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Boys Swim Faster

From a woman’s diet to sexual positions and timing, there are countless wives’ tales about determining the baby’s sex. Though many myths claim male sperm, aka those with Y-chromosomes, swim faster than their female counterparts, there’s no scientific proof to prove it. But, if using artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization, there are various sperm-sorting techniques that can be used to select the child’s sex, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Drink Robitussin

In the 1980s, it was thought that since cough medicine helps thin respiratory mucus, it may be useful in thinning vaginal mucus. While great in theory, there’s no research to back it up.

All Lubes are Created Equal

While it may maximize on-demand intercourse, sexual lubricant can also hamper the baby-making process. It depends what type you’re using. According to WebMD, lubricants without spermicidal agents are generally OK, but try to avoid water-based lubricants such as Astroglide, KY Jelly and Touch, which may inhibit sperm motility by 60 to 100 percent.

Mother’s Day When Trying to Conceive

One of the hardest day’s a woman can go through when she is trying to conceive is…

How many of you have skipped Church (or any other event for that matter) that day because you know it is going to be all about celebrating Mothers? You know that you will cry right away so instead of dealing with it you stay home depressed! I know I have! I have been trying to conceive for 6 years now and this is the hardest day for me.

Mother's DayI wanted to write this post today because it is not really talked about in our community. No one talks about the holidays and how crushing it is when you don’t have the pitter patter of feet running through your house.

No child will be running to your room in the morning with a burnt piece of toast saying happy Mother’s Day, Mom!

No, this isn’t supposed to depress you more than you already are! I want to give suggestions as to how to deal with Mother’s day while trying to conceive. Here are a few things I have done that have worked well for me..

  • Do something special with your partner – but don’t call it Mother’s Day! We don’t go out to eat because all you see around you is families. We go fishing together or some other activity we both really love. BTW – Fishing opener in my state is always on Mother’s Day weekend and it just so happens we both love the sport!
  • If you are crafty – do a craft to keep you busy on that day. Anything to keep your mind occupied.
  • Avoid TV at all costs because all you will see is Mother’s Day advertisements!
  • If you are a Praying person, Pray for peace and HELP with your emotions on that day!
  • Tell your partner that it is a rough day for you and to NOT mention anything about TTC, BABIES, FAMILIES, AND MOTHER’S DAY!
  • Put on some of your favorite tunes so you stay in a good mood.
  • If you like to be outdoors and it keeps you happy then get out there and take a walk!
  • I have even done my spring cleaning on that weekend (if it is too cold to go fishing) just too keep my mind occupied!
  • If you feel the need to do something for your Mother or your Mother-in-law ask if she would be willing to go for a mid-week dinner or if you could celebrate on a different day. If you feel comfortable telling her why then do so!

All these tips helped me through the years. It has pulled me through many tears! If you have any more suggestions, add them to the comment section below! We need all the help we can get ladies! Let’s help each other out on this one!

About Me

Hi everyone, I thought it was important for you all to see that a real person is developing this website! I will write a little bit here but most of you will watch the video more than read so I will make this short!

My husband and I married in 2007 and have been TTC’ing ever since then!

Information NOT ON VIDEO…

We met while I was overseas teaching on a small island near Guam. Life was hard there but we managed and soon it was apparent that we had to move back to the states as the economy was falling apart there. So we moved in with my mom for a few months, then found our own place. We lived there for a year and moved to where we are at now… Moving again shortly! So our TTC life has been up and down through out the years.

Yes, we have thought about other options… Adoption, IVF, IUI, Foster Care, you name it we have discussed it. All options are not good for us as a couple. Most cost a lot or have so much paperwork that my husband gets disgusted and walks away from it all. I have to agree with him on most of that because it is true, they don’t make it easy for us who are infertile to have children.

Information that IS ON VIDEO…

Through this 6 year journey I have done a lot of research and thought it would be good to build a website where all the information is there (as I go along and keep adding posts to the site.) As a beginner researcher I believed everything I read, but soon found out that not everything you read online is the truth! So, I went on a quest at finding the right information.

Now, I can’t promise you that if you read How to Conceive a Baby and take all the advice there you will get pregnant! NO, It is just what it says TIPS, not all things will work in all situations. I am also not saying don’t go to your doctor! PLEASE DO if you have one available! This site is here for education and tips to change our lifestyle little by little in hopes it will help someone out!

My husband and I do not know what is physically wrong with us but we never give up! My advice DON’T EVER GIVE UP! We are getting older and we still try (hubby is 10 years older than me!)

Hope this encourages you all, Please don’t hesitate to comment at the bottom of this page if you want to. If you have any personal questions please contact me using the contact us page or head over to the Facebook page!

National Infertility Awareness Week

The week of April 21-27, 2013 is National Infertility Awareness week.

I am writing this post to do a general outline of what infertility is and why we should talk about it more. I will also link other websites that have more information at the bottom of this page!

Join the Movement

One of the reasons I wanted to write this is because statistics say that 1 in 8 couples are infertile. Meaning they can’t get pregnant (or have a hard time getting pregnant.) I suspect that number is greatly increased because many people don’t want to talk about it or even report this to their doctors.

So what exactly is infertility?

Great Question! Infertility is a disease of the reproductive system. This can affect the female as well as the male partner. In years past many doctors only looked at the woman’s reproductive system but failed to look at the male’s at the same time. It is important when doing any testing to both test at the same time because there is no way of knowing for sure who has the issues. Often couples will discover that both have some issues. Here is a brief idea of some problems from both female and male reproductive systems…

Male Issues

  • Sperm Quantity - How many sperm a man ejaculates
  • Sperm Motility – this is how the sperm moves, do the sperm swim right?
  • Sperm Morphology – this is how the sperm are shaped. Example some have no tails or 2 heads.

I wrote about is in an earlier post if you want to know more about each of those you can click here

Female Issues
There are many so I will highlight only 3…

  • An-ovulation - this is where a woman does not ovulate an egg
  • endometriosis - This is a condition where the the lining tissue of the uterus grows outside the uterus.
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome – This is when a woman’s hormones are out of balance

I also posted about the first 2 if you want to learn more click here

So what do we do once we find out we are infertile?

Yet another great question! There are many options but it really depends on your specific situation. Here are a few things people choose…

  • Surragacy – Where another female carries your baby for you. This is for women who are unable to carry a baby to full term
  • IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) – This is where an egg is fertilzed at a clinic and inserted inside the womb by a procedure from a doctor. Many couples that have male factors choose this path
  • IUI (Intrauterine insemination) – This is the cheap version of IVF. This is where they collect the sperm and insert it as far as they can in the woman during ovulation in hopes that it will fertilize the egg when it is released.
  • ICSI (Intracytoplasmic sperm injection) – This is where the doctor takes the sperm and washes it, finding the very best one and uses that one for IVF. More expensive than IVF but very effective for those with Male factor infertility
  • Child adoption – for those that do not want to go through all the medical doctoring
  • Child foster care – Many choose this option because they want to help many children in need
  • Acupuncture - Some use this with IVF but some try it as a method before they go to the doctor
  • Natural Remedies – such as diet changes/lifestyle changes. Many people try this option first because it is the easiest and cheapest.

This is not an all inclusive list, there are many options out there these are just the most common of them. Now as you can clearly see many of these options require doctor visits which means you have to have health insurance. This brings up a big point of “Will my health insurance cover the cost?” most likely not. There are only a handful of states that require heath insurance to cover infertility. As you may note at the beginning of this page I said it was a disease. However according to most health insurance companies it is not. THAT MINDSET NEEDS TO CHANGE. This is why we have National Infertility Awareness week! There are many ways to get involved. Please click here or check the links below for upcoming events and to learn more about National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW)

For more information about infertility you can check out this great website as well

Sex Position for Conception

Is sex position all that important?

For people who are extremely fertile than no it really isn’t but to those who have a hard time conceiving, YES it is very important! Can you get pregnant in any position? Yes, any position can potentially get a woman pregnant. However, for those who have been trying for many months or even years and haven’t thought about position might want to consider this as an option to try.

Sex Position for Conceiving

Sex position is important when trying to conceive because you want the sperm to have the best chance possible. Especially if you have male factor infertility! With male factor infertility there might not be enough sperm or sperm that can’t swim very well.

What is the best position?

Missionary Position

Missionary position with woman on the bottom is really the best for conception. Gravity is on your side with this position! Once the man finishes inside most of all the sperm will stay inside because the woman is laying down. To make sure the sperm really stays inside she can prop a pillow under her for about 20 minutes. Do not prop up too far as the sperm can sit behind the cervix. Just prop up far enough to help the sperm swim toward the egg!

Doggy Style

Another position that is good is the doggy style. Most would think this is not good but it actually allows him to go deeper and closer to the cervix! Also some women have a tilted uterus. With a tilted uterus the sperm have a harder time swimming using the missionary position. It helps the sperm stay inside and swim to the egg. For those who do not have a tilted uterus and still want to do this position, make sure the man stays inside you for a few minutes after to ensure the sperm do not fall out due to gravity!

What Positions should I stay away from when trying to conceive?

Any position that the woman is on top, standing, and sitting with woman on top. Gravity is not your friend with these positions. If you use these positions most of the time don’t despair you still can use these styles. Just do not use close to ovulation!

Lubrication for Conception

Lubrication for Conception

Why is lubrication important to conception?

Order Now

Preseed Lubricant

There are several reasons why lubrication is important to conception. Here are two of the biggest reasons for using Lubrication.

1. It helps sperm swim better

Sperm can swim in natural lubrication also but if you help them out with any of the lubrications I will talk about later in the post then you give them a better chance to swim to the all important place where the egg is!

2. It protects sperm from dying

Many sperm will die as they travel. This is common and you should not be alarmed by it. However, you can better the sperm’s chances to get to the egg by using lubrication. The more sperm you have at the egg the better the chances of getting pregnant! Some types of lubrication will cause sperm to die so it is important to know which ones to use and which ones to avoid! I will go through a list of them later in this post.

Which Lubrication should I use?

This is a great question! Some cost money and some do not.

1. Pre-Seed

This lubrication you have to buy. It is good because it does not kill sperm. It is specially formulated to be just like natural lubrication. I have personally use it and love it! I would recommend it to anyone trying to conceive and even for those who are not. I have used other store bought lubes in the past and find them to be sticky and they dry up fast. Pre-Seed does not do that! You will feel naturally wet just like if you had a lot of EWCM! For those who do not produce any or very little EWCM this is the lube for you!

2. Egg Whites

Did I just say Egg Whites? Yes I did! This is also a great Lubrication and you don’t have to spend a lot of money!

But what about getting salmonella from it?

Simple, just gently wash the egg shell before cracking it open.

How do I use it?

First have it at room temperature before you use. When you are ready crack open the egg and separate the yoke from the whites. Bring the whites with you for the baby dancing! For use, you can either use it as a topical lub or insert it fully into the woman (which is what I suggest for conception.) This has protein in it which helps sperm stay alive through their journey as well as help them swim better!

3. Some people have used Coconut or Olive Oil.

I have not tried this method and don’t know much about it. I just thought I should mention it as an option. I would assume it stays inside you for a very long time since it is oil, if you use this method I wouldn’t use a lot and if it were me I would only use it as a topical lubrication.

What lubrication should I avoid?

Great question because as you remember I mentioned earlier that some lubrication will kill sperm. Here are a few…

1. Saliva (spit)

Yes, this kills sperm. Try convincing your partner of that! Now will it kill all sperm, probably not, but if you kill half of them your chances have been diminished! If you can avoid killing any you greatly increase your chances!

2. Most store bought lubrication.

One brand in particular called KY-Jelly I know will kill sperm. For sure if it has a spermicide in it than it kills sperm, but even if it doesn’t specifically say it is a spermicide still be aware that it might kill sperm.

If you have any questions or comments you can message me in the forum, Facebook, or Twitter! If you have a success story using one of these methods, please comment below or message me if you want me to put your story on my success story post! Many blessings on your TTC journey!

Cinnamon and Honey Tea for Weight Loss

Disclaimer… If you are a diabetic or hypoglycemic please check with your doctor about using the honey. This might not be a solution for you. If you are not please read on!

Trying to lose some weight for baby making…

For those who have been trying to conceive a baby and are also over weight, have you ever wondered how to loose some extra pounds easily? There is a way and it works! It seems like a miracle but it is something that many eastern countries have done for years! All you do is make a tea using Cinnamon and Honey!

Cinnamon and Honey for Weight LossCinnamon and Honey are really good for you! You can incorporate them into your diet in many ways but the best way for weight loss is by drinking this tea. It attacks the way your body consumes and uses sugar. It attacks the fat in your body as well especially in your abdomen.

You will first start to see inches come off before you see the scale move any. You don’t even have to drink it everyday but drinking it most days is beneficial. I recommend drinking the tea 2 times daily. You can make a big batch so you do not have to make it twice in one day! I make mine at night and drink the rest the next morning.  Here is the recipe…

For 2 cups (big batch)

Boil 2 cups of water

Put 1 teaspoon Cinnamon in a cup or glass

Add boiling water to you cup or glass

Stir and let steep (let it cool) for 20 – 30 minutes

Add 2 teaspoons of honey to cinnamon water

Stir and ENJOY!!!

Refrigerate the rest and drink the next time

If you only want to make one cup you need to half the recipe, so it will be 1 cup water, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and one teaspoon of honey!

The nice thing of this is it works even for the most obese person and it works for people who eat a high calorie diet. I am not saying to eat a high calorie diet – as you know if you are TTC’ing you need to start eating healthy! Please check out the Fertility Diet section for more info on eating healthy for fertility. I am saying however, that this boosts your weight loss to a whole new level! I do suggest for you to tell all your friends about this tip! Even if those friends are not trying to lose weight for getting pregnant!

I have personally been doing this for one week and already dropped 5 pounds. I told a friend at work to do the same and she has dropped 5 pounds! The YouTube video is not mine, I searched for more people doing this and there are many! I am so inspired from all the others and I would like you to share your success either here, on the forum or on our Facebook page! Happy weight loss to you!

Other health benefits for Cinnamon

Success from a YouTuber… However she used a pill version of the mixture. You can have the same effect by making your own tea at home.

Keep Romance Alive

If you have been trying to conceive for any length of time, you know how hard it is to keep your romance alive! You both must work at this or it will become just another thing you do for baby making and you won’t enjoy it anymore. DON’T DESPAIR  There are several things you can do!

Date Night:

Keep Romance Alive While Trying to Conceive

Have a date night! Go out to eat at a nice restaurant. Do not think about making a baby even if you are ovulating!

Just enjoy each other’s company. If you are experiencing secondary infertility and you have children already, do not bring them with you on this date! In fact don’t even go out on your date with a group of people. This is for you two to be with one another without distractions. Not only does this set aside a time to be together but you also relieve stress from the day, week, or month you have been bottling up! Stress again is not good for fertility so anything you can do to relieve it will help! You will also feel so much closer to your significant other if you do this often.

Valentine’s Day Everyday:

It is close to Valentine’s day as I am writing this page but don’t forget to have a Valentine’s day throughout the year for your special someone! There are many things you can do for your loved one to keep the romance alive while trying to conceive. The one thing about Valentine’s Day is you buy your loved one items like intimate apparel, candy, flowers, and stuffed animals for your loved one! Also when you do this on a non Valentine’s Day your loved one will feel so special! YES, Ladies you can do this for your man too! It is not just the men who should do this! In fact if you ladies do this your man will feel so special that it might lead to passionate “you know!

Get Out of the Bedroom:

If you have been TTC’ing for any length of time you know that when you do the deed you usually go to the bedroom. However, if you change it up a bit you will find more passion and desire for your mate! Be creative and don’t limit yourself to one room of the house. Talk to your significant other about this and even plan on different rooms and places you can do it in. Just to spice things up!

 Send Flowers

Yes, send flowers,You can do this on special days like a birthday, Christmas, or Valentine’s Day, but when you do this on a normal day it makes it so much more special! Just send them to your loved one as a surprise. Women, this can do special things when you do this for your man! Most people think the man should be the one to send flowers and be ROMANTIC but when women do this it makes the man feel so special!

Please keep checking this page, I will be adding more but I wanted to get this up as soon as possible!
